May 12, 13 & 14, 2000 -- Walla Walla, Washington. Balloonists from around the nation gathered for the 26th Annual Balloon Stampede.

Saturday night at the Fairgrounds with live music and fireworks, the balloons inflate for the spectacular "Night Glow" show of glowing colors for all to enjoy. While the balloons do not take off, the glow provides a myriad of color patterns against a magical night sky.

Sunday morning shortly after dawn twenty five balloonists assemble to inflate their balloons for ascension.

The field fills with bursts of color as the hot air burners go to work filling the huge balloons.

One by one they fire their burners and gently ascend from the field

And away they all float like the down of a feather.

You might want to plan now to visit Walla Walla for the 27th Balloon Stampede in May of 2001.
