Commentary on 2004 "State of the Art" Automobile Styling, as I see it. -- Will Murray

Yes, I like it. The front end is attractive. The side view is nice also. It is a little chunky in the butt end. But, altogether this is the best car that has hit the road with the Corvette name on it. To be honest, I like the C6 or 2005 Corvette even better, but that is probably because it has some retro styling influences that remind me of the C3 (68 to 82 Corvette Coke Bottle styling). And, I own one of those. But yes, this is a car with style. It exudes style and commands the attention of anyone who has an eye for automotive style and excellence. Right On, GM!

The 2004 Pontiac GTO. Bland styling with high performance. It's nice. It's very nice. But WHY did they have to kill the Camaro/Firebird? Why? Why? Why?
Ford tried that stunt when they almost killed the Mustang to replace it with the Probe. The outcry from the Mustang lovers put an end to that idea. The Camaro/Firebird lovers need to kick up a fuss and let GM know that they are pissed! Bring back the Camaro/Firebird, now, GM.

If you have megamillions and are wondering what to do with them. Buy this car for me now. I need it and can't afford it. I have said that, "No one should go through life without a Corvette." That is true. But, it looks like I am going to go through life without a Viper, unless you, out of the goodness of your heart, buy me one. Please. You don't know how difficult it is not to have a Viper. I need one. Yes, yes, yes, the Viper is the answer to my state of deprived auto acquisition. The Viper is my pick for "Best of Show." The styling has been around for a while, but I see nothing new that improves upon it.

I like the 2002 - 2003 - 2004 Thunderbird. It is a class act. I particularly like the retro cues that are so reminiscent of the 1955 Thunderbird. The headlight rims look like the 1955 in reverse, trending backwards instead of forward. I particularly like the fact the the stance of the car is horizontal, without the ass end up in the air, which is the current trend. The front of the new T-bird looks retro to 1955-56 but it also reminds me of the 1954 Corvette.

As you may have seen on previous pages, I own a 2003 T-bird. It is a fantastic car. The writer for the big article in the "Collector's 50 year Edition" of "Hemmings Motor News," says the the new T-bird is "overpriced and a flop." That is bullshit. Ford said up front that it was a limited production car and that they could only build 25,000 per year. Well, they have sold 45,000 2002-03 T-birds. That is a lot more production than the Corvette Convertible, or for that matter the 1955-56 T-Bird. If you call that a flop, you would have to say that the 1955-56 T-bird was a flop also. I don't think so.

The Lexus retractable Convertible. Nice. Very Nice. The car has a bit of a stodgy look to it with the belt line of the car higher than the fender line. But I could probably get used to that. The retractable hard-top is a feature that I would like very much. The removable hard top for our T-bird is not removable without two people to do it. The Lexus is a good competitor to Mercedes. Both are fine cars but I am prejudiced to the style of the Viper and the Corvette. Sorry!

The Old Reliable. BMW always produces good stuff. If you want a super-reliable sporty and somewhat conservative convertible... the BMW is one that you should carefully consider. The styling is a little tame, but all things considered, you cannot go wrong with this one.

I like it. Perhaps I should say that I bought a new Mazda RX-7 in 1979 when they had a long waiting list to get a new one... so I am not the most objective person to talk about the rotary engine sports car from Mazda. My RX-7 would go like a scalded ape if you hit the throttle. But, the gasoline mileage was abysmally low. The new one looks good. I like the four doors. Yeah.. it is nice. Let's take one for a ride. Now.

The Chrysler Crossfire is a classy car. Half Chrysler and half Mercedes. It looks good, drives good, and is good. I like the fast-back coupe. It has a retro 1950's look to it.
There is only one problem. As I read in one of the major automobile magazines, if you are over six feet tall, you may not fit into this car. I am 6' 2"." The writer was correct. I cannot sit in this car without my head rubbing on the roof, even with the seat as far back as it will go. Perhaps they built it just for the little people. If you are under six feet tall, you will most likely not have this problem. You will look good in this car. Buy it.
